Summertime in Val d’Ultimo

Hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, paragliding ... A summer in Val d'Ultimo is particularly exciting. You can start all activities directly from the apartments masi, without a car. A barrier-free path runs not far from the house, another one at the mountain station of the Schwemmalm cable car - the valley station of the cable car is next to our house.

UP HIGH WITH THE CABLE CAR - SCHWEMMALM

The valley station of the Schwemmalm cable car is only a two-minute walk from the apartments masi. With the cable car you will soon float effortlessly up to 2,100 metres - right into the hiking area. There you can hike to the nearby alpine pastures or start your mountain tour to the surrounding peaks.

Not far from the mountain station, there is an easy, wheelchair- and baby pusher-friendly trail around the small adventure pond. Mountain bikers can explore different trails with adrenaline-pumping downhills (bike rental is available at the valley station) and daredevils can try their hand at paragliding. Tandem flights are offered from the mountain station, with the landing site next to masi.

ENJOYABLE FAMILY HIKES

You don't have to drive far if you want to explore Val d'Ultimo, you can start easy walks and hikes at the apartments masi. The wheelchair accessible lake path leads along the shore to Santa Valburga and you can walk around the lake on the almost level path. On the other side, you will pass the Kneipp path with a water basin, loungers, tables and benches.

Above the apartments, directly past our farm, the “Ultner Höfeweg” runs to the famous ancient larches.

MOUNTAIN TOURS IN THE NATIONAL PARK

Val d'Ultimo is famous for its numerous hiking trails from the valley to the summits. At the end of the valley, about 10 minutes by car from the masi, stretches the Stelvio National Park - the largest in the entire Alpine region. There you can hike through partly untouched nature. Past many beautiful lakes such as the Lago Pescatori, Lago Lungo or Lago Verde. Through larch forests to rustic alpine pastures, huts and over the timberline up to the mountain peaks.

Starting points are the lake Fontana Bianca or the Lahnersäge National Park House - both accessible by bus. A sunrise hike in autumn to the 2,469 m high Monte Chiodo is particularly beautiful.

MORE EXPERIENCES IN NATURE

Once across the road and you're already at the riding arena, where you can take part by appointment in riding lessons and guided rides in the countryside. Next to the lake, in summer there is a popular meeting place for guests and locals: for swimming, stand-up paddling or just relaxing on the meadow. In Pracupola the lake is shallow, ideal for refreshing yourself after a day of hiking.

Fishing is also possible here. Furthermore, there are regular activities around the lake such as groups for Nordic walking or jogging, herb walks and much more.

Cultural excursion to Merano and Bolzano

If the weather doesn't play along as we are used to in Val d'Ultimo, an excursion to the thermal city of Merano or to the provincial capital of Bolzano is worthwhile: a shopping tour under the arcades, visits to museums or a day of relaxation in the thermal baths of Merano ... The bus stop is opposite our house.

Farmers market & specialities

During your holiday with us at the masi, be sure to enjoy the typical farmer's specialities from Val d'Ultimo. Not far from our apartments is the small farmer's shop "sea.wies" with many products from the valley.

In Santa Valburga, 5 minutes away by car or bus, there are regular farmers markets where you can buy cheese, yoghurt, bacon, honey and fruit spreads, freshly baked bread and rural handicraft products. In this village you will also find the farm shop "Wegleit" with herbal products.
